As we begin planning for the next school year, we’re excited to invite families to learn more about AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) and how it supports students in building strong academic habits, confidence, and a clear path toward future success.
AVID is designed for students who have college or postsecondary goals, are willing to work hard, and would benefit from structured support along the way. Ideal AVID candidates are curious, motivated, and open to growth—even if school hasn’t always felt easy. AVID is not about being “perfect” or already excelling; it’s about students who want to improve their organization, study skills, critical thinking, and self-advocacy while learning how to navigate increasingly rigorous coursework.
In AVID, students learn how to:
If you believe your student would benefit from this kind of academic support and challenge, we encourage you to request an AVID application for next year.
To request an application, visit lps.org and use the Jump Code: YR4U.
We look forward to partnering with families to help more students build the skills, confidence, and determination they need to succeed—because AVID truly is for all.

Culler Library Mission
Do you remember the print edition of the World Book Encyclopedia that you may have used when you were in school? Your student still has access to this resource today – just in an online format. World Book is bigger and better than ever and has components that serve preschool through adults. Your student can access this from their LPS portal. Want to know what World Book version is best for your student?
Have your student go to these databases to see the resources and more!

There are many “layers” of digital protections that follow your student as they progress through their life in LPS. Informed by federal/state laws, and guided by LPS Board of Education policies, the District builds a digital “walled garden” where students are able to collaborate with peers and teachers, while also keeping their data secure.

LPS students using their LPS Chromebooks around town should connect to a more secure network whenever it is available. LPS has partnered with organizations to provide the following options:
The eduroam wireless network is a secure, world-wide wireless roaming access service for the international research and education community. Students can find it in several establishments around Lincoln. Simply select it from the list of available networks – no other steps needed! Visit this eduroam poster and/or LPS jump code: pao4 for more information.
Allo SmartTown for Education is a partnership between Allo and LPS to provide optional, community-wide wireless internet access to LPS. This program is available for LPS students in grades 6-12 who request access and have parent permission. With over 100,000 access points across Lincoln, students can access the internet from a variety of locations without cost to the student or family. Information for getting started can be found in this Allo SmartTown Setup document.
