AVID For All

Interested in AVID? Apply Now!

Is your student motivated to succeed in school and beyond? Do they want support in building the skills, confidence, and habits that lead to college and career readiness?

At Culler Middle School, AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is more than just a class—it’s a community. AVID students learn organization, study strategies, goal-setting, and leadership skills while being surrounded by peers who are just as focused on their future.

Applications for AVID will open online next week and will remain open through the end of March.

Encourage your student to apply if they are ready to:

  • Take on challenges and grow academically
  • Develop strong study and organizational habits
  • Build confidence as leaders and collaborators
  • Prepare for high school, college, and beyond

👉 More information and the application link will be available on the Culler website and in the media center next week.

Don’t miss this chance for your student to join a program that helps them unlock their potential and achieve their goals.

AVID (Achievement Via Individual Determination) is an educational program that is designed to help students develop the skills they need to be successful in college and beyond. This segment is meant for all Culler students and their families, not just those in the AVID Elective, so that every student can reap the benefits of successful habits and routines now, and in the future!

For more information, visit https://home.lps.org/curriculum/avid/ or reach out to our AVID Elective Instructor, Mx. Beatty via email (abeatty3@lps.org)

The Culler Library

Empower learners to be curious, critical, and creative thinkers; enthusiastic readers; skillful researchers; and conscientious digital citizens.

Diverse Books for All!

Are you looking for books with diverse characters and themes? MOSAIC is an annual collection of high-interest diverse books for preschool through high school students reviewed by LPS librarians and educators.

  • Look for the MOSAIC Multicultural Book Display link on your school library website.
  • Browse the collection and borrow the eBooks or audiobooks.
  • Want a print copy of a book? Ask your school librarian!

Digital Citizenship Tips

Our students are learning about online communication and etiquette. Here are some prompts to help you continue the conversation at home:

  • What do you like to do online? What are some positive ways you use technology?
  • How do you use good manners online?
  • What is the difference between face-to-face and online conversations? When would it be better to talk to someone in person rather than texting or posting something online?
  • Why should you ask permission before posting a photo or video of someone else online?
  • How do you avoid other online distractions (games, browsing other websites, etc.) while doing schoolwork online?

Want ideas for supporting digital citizenship in your home? Follow your school, LPS Library Services, or #lpsdigcit on social media to get weekly tips. Find additional digital citizenship tips on our website: Library Services Digital Citizenship Tips

Technology for Learning

A Parent Guide to Student Chromebook Use in LPS

Parenting a “Chromebook student” can present some interesting challenges. While few students would choose to do worksheets all evening just for fun, your student might actually WANT to be on their Chromebook at night. It can be hard to tell what they’re focusing on while staring at the device screen. Use this Parent Guide to Student Chromebooks & the Digital Learning Environment in LPS resource to help inform your conversations about expectations for Chromebook use at home.

Top 10 Things to Know about Student Technology in LPS

There is a lot that parents COULD know about the tools their students use in LPS. These are the 10 most important things! 10 Things to Know about Student Technology in LPS

Reminder: Intentional Damage to Chromebooks

As a reminder, damage caused on purpose, or because of a lack of care for the Chromebook, cannot be covered by the Chromebook Assurance Program (CAP). Families will be billed for any intentional damage.

ParentVue is a component of the LPS Student Information System that allows parents/guardians to:

  • Access class information
  • Obtain email addresses to message teachers
  • Monitor attendance & report all-day absences 24×7
  • View and print report cards
  • Secondary Only: Monitor grades & automatically receive notifications when a grade falls below a selected level
